Yearlings by Into Mischief , American Pharoah , and Curlin continued to be in demand at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, with one by each stallion topping the seven-figure mark early during the Sept. 14 session.
Hip 282, a gray or roan Curlin colt produced from the multiple grade 1-winning Midnight Lute mare Midnight Lucky was purchased by a group that included Repole, St. Elias, Gainesway, J. Oxley, and Grandview for $1.2 million.
Cataloged by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent, the Curlin colt was bred in Kentucky by Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings, Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman. The colt descends from a deep female family that includes grade 1 winners Hookedonthefeelin and Pussycat Doll and grade 1 winner and sire Jimmy Creed .
Mike Rutherford also went to the $1.2 million level to acquire Hip 291, an American Pharoah filly with a major catalog update. Consigned by Betz Thoroughbreds, agent, the filly bred in Kentucky by J. Betz, CoCo Equine, Magers, Burns, is out of the grade 1-placed Vindication mare Modification. The dam has produced multiple grade 2-placed Sawyer's Hill and Yaupon, winner of the Amsterdam Stakes (G2) Aug. 29 at Saratoga Race Course.
Don Adam's Courtlandt Farm stepped up to buy a daughter of Spendthrift Farm's leading sire Into Mischief for $1,025,000.
Consigned as Hip 275 by its Kentucky breeder Clearsky Farms, the Into Mischief filly foaled Feb. 17 of last year is out of the stakes-placed Distorted Humor mare Mary Rita. Her third dam was undefeated champion Personal Ensign, the dam of grade 1 winners My Flag, Miner's Mark, and Traditionally and the granddam of champion Storm Flag Flying and a host of black-type winners, including Mr Speaker .
