Trainer George Weaver and his Weaver Racing Inc. have paid a total of $425,000 in court-ordered back wages, liquidated damages, and civil penalties for violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the labor provisions of the H-2B Visa program, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division.

According to the Dept. of Labor, WHD investigators found that the trainer and his company violated the FLSA by failing to pay overtime to grooms and hot walkers in Elmont, N.Y. and Saratoga Springs, N.Y. WHD also cited Weaver for recordkeeping violations for the failure to record the number of hours employees worked accurately.

Weaver is among several New York-based trainers who have made such back wage payments.
