Charles Fipke's homebred Lady Speightspeare overcame gate troubles and powered home to win the CA$250,000 Natalma Stakes (G1T) Sept. 20 at Woodbine.
Jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson hopped off in the starting gate and remounted as Lady Speightspeare popped up before the break, but the 2-year-old Speightstown filly was all business once the gates sprung. She tracked the pace, took over in the stretch, and fended off a run from Alda to complete the mile on firm turf in 1:34.61.
The chestnut trained by Roger Attfield is undefeated in two starts.
The Natalma is a Breeders' Cup Challenge event that awards the winner an automatic berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) Nov. 6 at Keeneland.
