Varenka (outside) dead heats with Regal Glory in the 2019 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga Race Course

Augustin Stable's Varenka will face seven competitors Oct. 3 when she makes her first trip to Pimlico Race Course for the $150,000 Gallorette Stakes (G3T). 

Trained by Graham Motion, Varenka will be the highweight in Saturday's 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares at 123 pounds. The 4-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper  has not visited the winner's circle since 2019, when she won the Lake Placid Stakes (G2T) at Saratoga Race Course in a dead heat with Regal Glory.  

Varenka has not fared as well in her three starts this year. The bay finished off the board in the Old Forester Mint Julep Stakes (G3T) May 30 at Churchill Downs before turning in a pair of fifth-place finishes in the July 18 WinStar Matchmaker Stakes (G3T) at Monmouth Park and the Sept. 7 One Dreamer Stakes at Kentucky Downs. 

Jockey Trevor McCarthy will partner Varenka from the outside; post 8. 

At the opposite end of the field and waiting to leave from the rail will be Juddmonte Farms' homebred Juliet Foxtrot. Trained by Brad Cox, the 5-year-old Dansili mare has also found some trouble reaching the winner's circle in 2020. 

Juliet Foxtrot, who began her career in her native England, earned her first and only stakes win to date on her third start in the United States when she won the 2019 Modesty Handicap (G3T). The mare has hit the board in four other stakes following her Modesty victory. 

This year Juliet Foxtrot finished sixth in the Old Forester, third in the July 11 Coolmore Jenny Wiley (G1T) at Keeneland and fourth in the Longines Churchill Distaff Turf Mile (G2T) Sept. 5 at Churchill. 

Florent Geroux will have the call on Juliet Foxtrot in the Gallorette.
