The top three finishers from the Alma North Stakes are entered back against each other in the $100,000 Skipat Stakes Presented by Runhappy, a six-furlong dash for fillies and mares Oct. 3 at Pimlico Race Course.
R. Larry Johnson's Never Enough Time led through most of the Sept. 5 Alma North at Laurel Park and held on by a length over Lael Stables' Chalon. The runner-up, who entered the Alma North off back-to-back stakes victories, stumbled at the start before recovering to ultimately finish second. Steve and Debbie Jackson's Last True Love will take aim at the top two again after rallying to finish third behind them.
Chalon is cross entered in The Very One Stakes on turf Oct. 1, but makes a strong case for the Skipat since she won the event in May 2019.
The trio from the Alma North will have to take on 2W Stables' Bronx Beauty, who pulled away to win the Sept. 13 Regret Stakes by 4 1/4 lengths at Monmouth Park. Though Bronx Beauty has been a top contender for sprints in the Mid-Atlantic region, Chalon defeated her in the slop in the Aug. 16 Incredible Revenge Stakes at Monmouth, where the pair ran 1-2 throughout in the off-the-turf event.
S W Briar Rose, placed in two allowance starts this year; Liza Star, third in the Sheer Drama Stakes last out; and Saylorville Stakes winner Bye Bye J complete the field.
