The 47th Annual Global Symposium on Racing will not be held this year due to restrictions related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The symposium has been officially rescheduled for Dec. 6-8, 2021, at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Ariz.

"Given the continuing restrictions from the University of Arizona, as well as the community at large, on the size and type of gatherings allowed as well as the continued restrictions on travel and the reluctance of many to travel, the only choice was to wait to hold the event," said Wendy Davis, director of the University of Arizona's Race Track Industry Program, which hosts the symposium.

The Symposium regularly attracts participants in the Thoroughbred, Standardbred, Quarter Horse, Greyhound, and racino industries nationwide and internationally. Topics during the 2019 symposium addressed marketing, safety, and welfare issues, a discussion on maintaining a critical mass of owners and horseplayers, maintaining a critical mass of the equine population, continued opportunities from television exposure, and discussions about listening to the racing customer.

Transcripts from the 2019 presentations and previous symposiums going back to 2004 are available on the University of Arizona's Race Track Industry Program website.

The broad cross-section of North American and international participants, representing all pari-mutuel racing breeds, makes the Global Symposium on Racing the largest industry conference in the world.
