Serpentine wins the Derby at Epsom

Connections of Serpentine have paid €72,000 to supplement the shock Investec Derby (G1) winner for the Oct. 4 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1) as 16 horses remain on course for the ParisLongchamp showpiece.

The front-running winner at Epsom in July will return to Paris as one of five in the race for Aidan O'Brien, which includes Love, whose price continues to drift and who is now as big as 11-4 with some firms.

Serpentine has raced only once since that shock 5 1/2-length victory at Epsom, when finishing fourth behind stablemate Mogul—also an Arc runner—in the Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris (G1).

O'Brien was delighted with Serpentine's run there, indicating that it should bring him on a lot for this weekend's assignment. Christophe Soumillon retains the ride on the 14-1 shot.

Should Serpentine triumph on Sunday he would be the first Derby winner to claim both group 1s in the same season since Golden Horn in 2015. O'Brien has won the Arc twice; with Dylan Thomas (2007) and Found (2016).

Connections of the David Menuisier-trained Wonderful Tonight have opted not to supplement her for the Arc.

History-seeking Enable is on course for Paris, with her price remaining 6-4 to record a third victory in the race despite conditions likely to be more testing than ideal.

Persian King, Stradivarius, and Sottsass are among the other big names on course for the race.

The ground is currently very soft at Longchamp following 0.9 millimeters of rain in the last 24 hours. The penetrometer was changed from 3.9 from 4.0.

There were few surprises elsewhere on the Longchamp card at the final supplement stage, with Battaash heading 14 still in the Prix de l'Abbaye (G1). Nando Parrado, Wembley, and St Mark's Basilica are on course for the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (G1), while 19, including Fev Rover and Pretty Gorgeous, remain in the Prix Marcel Boussac (G1).
