Exhi Yearling Filly Tops CTHS Alberta Fall Sale

Description:

A yearling filly by Exhi topped the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Alberta Division) Fall Mixed Sale conducted Sept. 18 at Westerner Park in Red Deer, Alberta.

Bred in Alberta by consignor Highfield Investment Group and Curtis Landry, the filly (Hip 53) was purchased by Greg Tracy, agent, for CAN$44,000 (US$33,422). The filly is the second foal out of the multiple stakes winning Forestry mare Eustacia, who earned $189,540 while winning seven of 14 starts, with four placings.

The sale-topper had a major pedigree update since the catalog was printed as her 2-year-old half brother All Canadian has placed second in the Bull Page and Simco Stakes at Woodbine.

From 64 yearlings offered, CTHS reported 40 sold for $327,400 ($263,121), an average price of $8,395 ($6,578) and $4,500 ($3,798) median. The RNA rate was 37.5%, with 24 not sold.

During the comparable sale in 2019, the 111 yearlings sold for $451,300 ($341,589), with a $6,735 ($5,098) average and $2,700 ($2,044) median.

The auction's second-highest price of $26,500 ($20,130) was paid by True North Stable for a Kentucky-bred daughter of Laoban  filly consigned by Stone Ranches as Hip 60. Bred by Woodford Thoroughbreds, the filly is out of the stakes-placed Bernardini mare Kimono and is from the female family of grade 1 winner Declassify and grade 3 winner Life's a Parlay.

Stone Ranches had purchased the filly from its breeder for $1,500 as a weanling at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
