Jevian Toledo, who finished as Maryland's leading rider in 2015 and 2017, secured his 1,000th within the mainland United States and Canada Oct. 8 when he piloted James C. Wolf's Instigated to a 2 1/4-length score in the second race at Laurel Park.

A five-time leading rider at Laurel, Toledo got off to a quick start on opening day at the current fall meet with three wins from seven mounts on Thursday.

With 33 wins as well in Puerto Rico, has 1,033 wins from 6,441 starts and purse earnings of $31,862,535 through Thursday. He boasts a pair of graded stakes wins: aboard Miss Behaviour in the 2014 Charles Town Oaks (G3) and Divisidero  in the 2018 Arlington Handicap (G3T).

Maryland Jockey Club had previously recognized Toledo's accomplishment—counting his wins in Puerto Rico, where he was born in the town of Caguas.

"Whenever you win a race, you feel happy. When you win a thousand, you feel amazing like all the hard work pays off," Toledo said at the time. "I just feel blessed. I have to thank God. Without him, we wouldn't be here. I have to thank the owners, trainers, grooms, exercise riders, hotwalkers, my agent—everybody does a great job."

On Thursday, 6-5 favorite Instigated shadowed early leader Pardon the Pun, seized the lead coming out of the far turn, and drew offf in the stretch. Trained by Anthony Farrior, Instigated completed the 1 1/16-mile maiden claiming race in 1:44.82 on a fast track.
