Sweetest Chant Stakes (gr. IIIT) winner Consumer Credit could build a four-race win streak if she takes home the money in the $150,000 Herecomesthebride Stakes (gr. IIIT) Feb. 28 at Gulfstream Park, but the runner-up finisher from her last victory will be back to challenge her.
Consumer Credit, a 3-year-old daughter of More Than Ready , has not been defeated since breaking her maiden going six furlongs over a yielding Belmont Park turf course Oct. 25 for trainer Chad Brown, when she drew off to a 2 1/4-length victory after stalking the early pace. She returned to action at Gulfstream Park West Nov. 29 with a 3 3/4-length triumph in the Wait a While Stakes over a firm course going a mile, and won the Sweetest Chant Jan. 24 by a length at the same distance and under similar conditions.
A $130,000 purchase from the Fasig-Tipton Florida March selected sale of 2-year-olds in training, Consumer Credit will depart post 8 of 9 in the 1 1/16-mile Herecomesthebride. She has been assigned top weight of 123 pounds and will have regular rider Edgard Zayas in the irons wearing the silks of Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence.
All others in the group carry 116 pounds.
Quality Rocks, a Florida-bred daughter of Rock Hard Ten, will take another run at Consumer Credit after being passed by her while dueling for the pace in the Sweetest Chant. The Bill Mott trainee was recovering from a 10th-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (gr. IT) after running second in the JP Morgan Chase Jessamine Stakes (gr. IIIT) off a victory in the Arlington-Washington Lassie.
Owned by Flavor Racing, Brous Stable, Wachtel Stable and breeder Destiny Oaks Of Ocala, Quality Rocks will break from the 5 hole under Javier Castellano.
Jan. 3 Ginger Brew Stakes winner Devine Aida also puts a three-race win streak on the line and will be ridden by Jesus Rios from the rail.
Pine Needles and Maddizaskar will race without Lasix, while Temper Mint Patty tries turf for the first time in her career off a fourth in the Jan. 3 Old Hat Stakes (gr. III) sprinting six furlongs on the dirt.
