America’s Best Racing and DerbyJackpot team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, one of our crack handicappers - Jose Contreras, Dan Tordjman, Victoria Garofalo or Cory Moelis – will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet.
The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, our handicappers will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
Our handicappers also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity to bet a trifecta or superfecta.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. It's the easiest and most fun online horse betting site out there. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. Place your bets and you can walk away with some extra cash in your pocket.

Best Bet (Win Bet/Monkey Bet)
Laurel Park, Race 4, 2 p.m. ET
#1 High Wire Act: We’re staring at a pretty nice 9-to-2 on the morning line here. This speedster comes in well rested off of a three-month break and draws the rail without any other speed signed up. The top jockey at the meet signs on. Barring a bad break or unforeseen trip issues, this horse finishes no worse than second.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Laurel Park, Race 6, 2:58 p.m. ET
#2 Herman's Wildcat: The main speed in this race won two starts back against similar with returning jockey aboard. This filly drew nicely and should lead them most of the way around.
#9 Pony Romo: This filly has gained good ground late, and she had excuses last out in her first try against winners. Pony Romo comes in off of a short break and her trainer does well with his horses off of the freshening.
#10 Hereshecomesagain: This one drops down in class and should do considerably better against this softer group. She also attracts the track’s top rider, who shows a nice 27% win percentage when riding for this trainer.
#3 Remember the Prom: This filly ships in from Parx but shows a couple of nice efforts on the dirt at Laurel. She figures to be in the thick of it late.
Sunday, March 1
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Oaklawn Park, Race 6, 4:46 p.m. ET
#6 Oldwick: He was beaten by 1 1/4 lengths against similar company at Saratoga last summer. Oldwick should be right up with the pace and have every chance turning for home.
#7 Hawks Nest: Speed of the speed was passed by a few late last out but that was a much tougher bunch. Hawks Nest figures to set the pace and could take them all the way if he isn't pressed.
#12 Boardwalk Baron: I’ll take a shot with this outsider dropping out of allowance-level company. Underrated jockey Floyd Wethey Jr. gets the call for a trainer he wins for at a 22% clip. I also like the addition of blinkers in this speed-deprived field.
#4 Golden Moon: He is a logical horse to fill out the exotics. He has a win on this track at this distance, plus he faces much softer competition than he raced against in his most recent start.
Best Bet (Win Bet/Monkey Bet)
Oaklawn Park, Race 8, 5:42 p.m. ET
#2 The Big Beast: This horse lived up to his name last year when winning the Grade 1 Kings Bishop Stakes at Saratoga. An injury sidelined him for the fall and most of the winter, but he returns here and towers over this field if he’s fit. The Big Beast wins this race by double-digits on his best day.
