Miss Adeline breaks her maiden at Churchill Downs

William Pribble's Miss Adeline prevailed by a neck in a maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies on turf Oct. 25 at Churchill Downs, marking the first winner for freshman sire Big Blue Kitten

The chestnut filly ridden by Edgar Morales sat off the pace of leader Yaba Daba Diva, who set fractions of :24.89, :50.93, 1:17.13, and 1:41.90 through a mile. Miss Adeline bid for the lead passing the quarter pole and passed the frontrunner late to complete 1 1/16 miles on good turf in 1:48.42.

Miss Adeline debuted for trainer Adolfo Macias Aug. 21 at Ellis Park, finishing eighth at 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass. She improved to run second Sept. 15 when racing 6 1/2 furlongs at Kentucky Downs. She has earned $67,392 from three starts.

Calumet Farm bred Miss Adeline in Kentucky out of the A.P. Indy mare Vuemont. Pribble purchased the filly for $2,500 from the Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services consignment to the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Big Blue Kitten is a son of leading turf sire Kitten's Joy  out of the Unaccounted For mare Spent Gold. Trained by Chad Brown, he was campaigned by his breeders, Ken and Sarah Ramsey, for most of his race career during which he twice won the United Nations Stakes (G1T) at Monmouth Park, took the Sword Dancer Invitational Stakes (G1T) at Saratoga Race Course, and captured the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1T) at Belmont Park. He earned almost $3 million from a 14-8-5 record in 33 starts from ages 3-8.

Big Blue Kitten made three starts for Calumet Farm at the end of his race career before beginning his stud career at the Lexington farm in 2017. He stood the 2020 season for $10,000.
