Engage wins the 2019 Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland

Woodford Racing's Engage is seeking a win in his second start off the layoff at Keeneland, where he scored a graded victory a year ago. He'll face 11 others Nov. 7 in the $150,000 Lafayette Stakes Presented by Keeneland Select at seven furlongs.

The 5-year-old son of Into Mischief  won the Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes (G2) last October before running fourth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) won by Steve Asmussen stablemate and champion Mitole . Sidelined for much of this year, Engage returned in the Sept. 26 Vosburgh Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park and tired to fifth.

Red Oak Stable and Madaket Stables' multiple grade 1 winner Mind Control opened this season with two wins for trainer Gregg Sacco and is looking for his first win in four starts since. The 4-year-old Stay Thirsty  colt did run third in two of those starts, including the Sept. 12 Mr. Prospector Stakes at Monmouth Park, where he was in tight early and shuffled back at the half-mile pole.

Thumbs Up Racing's Sleepy Eyes Todd, a frontrunning 7 1/2-length winner of the Aug. 28 Charles Town Classic (G2), will cut back from route distances for the Lafayette. He receives class relief after running fifth most recently behind Improbable  and Maximum Security  in the Sept. 26 Awesome Again Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park.

Marianne Stribling, Force Five Racing, and Two Rivers Racing Stable's Phat Man, winner of the Fred W. Hooper Stakes (G3) in January, makes his first start since second in the Feb. 29 Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes (G2).

Dinar, Absolutely Aiden, Midnight Sands, Edgemont Road, Everfast, Strike That, Ebben, and True Timber are also entered.
