Nashville Seeks First Stakes Win in Perryville

Nashville wins an allowance race Oct. 10 at Keeneland

Headlining the field of 3-year-olds entered in the $125,000 Perryville Stakes at Keeneland is 4-5 morning-line favorite Nashville. The race for sophomores is the first of the date on the Nov. 7 Breeders' Cup World Championships card. 

Owned in partnership by China Horse Club and WinStar Farm and trained by Steve Asmussen, the Speightstown  colt will have the rail trip in the six-furlong dirt sprint under Ricardo Santana Jr. The Perryville will be the first step up to stakes company for the sophomore, who is unbeaten in two starts. 

Nashville broke his maiden Sept. 2 at Saratoga Race Course and took an Oct. 10 Keeneland allowance race over the Perryville distance by an impressive 9 3/4 lengths. 

Also contesting the Perryville from the barn of Asmussen is Little Menace, an Into Mischief  colt owned by Phoenix Thoroughbred. Little Menace will be making his eighth start of 2020 in the Perryville and enters off a fourth-place effort in the Oct. 1 Chick Lang Stakes (G3) at Pimlico Race Course. 

Little Menace earned his first stakes win June 28 when he took the 1 1/16-mile Grand Prairie Derby by 3 1/4 lengths at Lone Star Park. Tyler Gaffalione will have the call on Little Menace in the Perryville from post 2. 

Trainer Mike Maker will send out the only Louisiana-bred in Saturday's Perryville when he saddles Relentless Dancer. A son of Midshipman , the dark bay colt finished just ahead of fellow runner Little Menace in the Chick Lang Stakes when running third. Owned in partnership by Paradise Farms Corp., Terry Raymond, and Jana Wagner, the colt has earned two stakes wins in 2020, taking the July 4 Louisiana Legends Cheval Stakes at Evangeline Downs and the Aug. 28 Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. 

Irad Ortiz Jr. will partner with Relentless Dancer from post 6.
