Last Arrivals for Breeders' Cup 30

Two of the leading contenders for the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I)—defending champion Fort Larned and Palace Malice—along with champion Wise Dan were among the last horses to arrive for World Championships when vans pulled into the Santa Anita Park stable area around 6 p.m. (PDT) Oct. 29.
In addition to Palace Malice, the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner, two other Breeders' Cup horses trained by Todd Pletcher—Turf Sprint (gr. IT) contender Capo Bastone and undefeated Juvenile (gr. I) entrant Havana—were on board a plane that had horses from New York and Kentucky. Capo Bastone, who will be making his grass debut in the Breeders' Cup, is at 8-1 on the morning line, and Palace Malice has been installed at 10-1.
The plane was about 90 minutes later than its originally scheduled arrival time because it had to bypass inclement weather along the route.
Trained by Ian Wilkes, Fort Larned will be seeking to replicate his 2012 triumph when he led throughout under Brian Hernandez for an upset Classic victory. He is coming off a 1 1/2-length triumph in the Homecoming Classic at Churchill Downs and is the 6-1 third choice in the morning line.
Wise Dan, the even-money morning line favorite to defend his Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) triumph of last year, was bedded down in the barn of Santa Anita-based trainer Ray Bell.
