Jockey Christophe Soumillon received a positive result Nov. 5 from a polymerase chain reaction COVID-19 test that was administered on-site Nov. 4 at Keeneland under Breeders' Cup's comprehensive health and safety plan.
A second test was immediately performed which confirmed the initial diagnosis. This was positive was the only positive from 55 tests administered to all Breeders' Cup jockeys.
According to the procedures in place, Soumillon, who rides in France but had made the trip for Breeders' Cup, immediately departed the Keeneland grounds to enter into isolation. At this time, he is not displaying any symptoms.
Soumillon was scheduled to ride Order of Australia in the FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile presented by PDJF (G1) and Tarnawa in the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) Nov. 7.
Colin Keane will now ride Tarnawa and Pierre-Charles Boudot picks up the mount on Order of Australia, per an announcement of jockey changes and scratches distributed by Breeders' Cup Friday morning.
According to Breeders' Cup, both horses' connections have been notified, and the few individuals who have come into contact with him since his arrival have undergone additional testing and received negative results.
