Maximum Security Retired to Ashford Stud

Multiple grade 1 winner and Eclipse Award-winning 3-year-old champion colt Maximum Security  has been retired from racing, it was announced Nov. 10. He is now available for inspection at Ashford Stud, where he will stand for $20,000 in 2021.

Winner of his only start as a juvenile by 9 3/4 lengths for Gary and Mary West, homebred Maximum Security was first to the wire in all of his four grade 1 starts as a sophomore, winning the TVG.com Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1), the Cigar Mile Mile Handicap (G1), and the Xpressbet Florida Derby (G1). He lost the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) via disqualification.

As a 4-year-old, Maximum Security won the inaugural $20 million Saudi Cup, defeating eight individual grade 1 winners, before transferring to Bob Baffert for whom he won the San Diego Handicap (G2) and the TVG Pacific Classic Stakes (G1). The colt retires with a 10-2-0 record out of 14 starts.

The best son of Street Cry's Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) winner New Year's Day, Maximum Security is out of the winning Anasheed mare Lil Indy, who is the daughter of Cresta Lil, who produced multiple grade 1 winner and sire Flat Out , stakes winner Our Best Man, and eight other winners.The family also produced grade 1 winner Got Koko and Louisiana Derby (G3) and Jim Beam Stakes (G3) winner J.T.'s Pet.
