Digital Age wins the Turf Classic at Churchill Downs

The Roger Varian-trained Cheshire Plain, a full sister to this year's Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic Stakes (G1T) scorer Digital Age, will make her late-season debut at Newcastle Nov. 17.

Owned and bred by Merry Fox Stud, the juvenile filly is the third foal out of the unraced Lemon Drop Kid  mare Willow View and was a 130,000 guineas (US$167,771) buyback at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Her grade 1-winning older brother was another bred by Merry Fox and was a 325,000 guineas ($451,781) purchase for Klaravich Stables when offered by The Castlebridge Consignment at Book 1 three years ago.

In training with Chad Brown, the 4-year-old notched his first top-level success when seeing off Factor This at Churchill Downs in September. He won the American Turf Stakes Presented by Ram Trucks (G2T) on his second start.

Among Cheshire Plain's 13 rivals is the Kevin Ryan-trained Snow Empress, a Kingman half sister to group 3 winner Chilean and a 200,000 guineas ($264,632) purchase as a yearling from Tattersalls Book 2, plus the Cheveley Park-owned Sacristy, a Twilight Son half sister to group 2 scorer Penitent.

Willow View produced a Siyouni colt last year, and she has since visited Frankel and Dubawi over the past two seasons.
