Eclipse champion sprinter Runhappy will stand for $10,000 in 2021, Claiborne Farm announced Nov. 16.
The 8-year-old son of Super Saver and freshman sire has 20 (59%) runners that have finished in the money from 34 starters, which include five winners and 11 runner-up performances and six thirds.
In the sales ring, Runhappy's first-crop yearlings averaged $227,383, with his top seller commanding $700,000 in 2019. This year, his first-crop 2-year-olds averaged $153,100 and brought top prices of $475,000 and $435,000.
Undefeated in sprint competition, Runhappy won at six different tracks, scoring on both all-weather and dirt surfaces, while racing 100% medication-free. His victories included the NYRA.com King's Bishop Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course, where he set a stakes record, going seven furlongs in 1:20.54. It was the fastest running of the King's Bishop in the race's 32-year history and earned a 113 Beyer Speed Figure.
In the TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1), Runhappy set a track record at Keeneland, completing the distance in 1:08.54. His 108 Beyer Speed Figure was the year's fastest by a 3-year-old at six furlongs. He retired with earnings of $1,496,250, with seven wins from 10 starts.
Runhappy was bred in Kentucky by Wayne Lyster, Gray Lyster, and Bryan Lyster out of the Broken Vow mare Bella Jolie, and was a $200,000 purchase by Jim McIngvale from Ashview Farm's consignment to the 2013 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
