Field Favored at Close of Derby Wager Pool 3

Churchill Downs' Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool 3 closed March 1 with the mutuel field, or "All Others," the tepid 4-1 favorite, while American Pharoah and Dortmund were the top two individual interests. 
 
"All Others" refers to 3-year-olds other than the 23 who were named individually in the pool, which is the third or four wagering pools for the 2015 Derby to be run May 2. Wagering on The Great War in pool 3 was suspended prior to the start of Sunday's wagering. The colt was pulled from consideration for the Derby after finishing last in the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes Feb. 28 at Turfway Park
 
The Bob Baffert-trained pair of Zayat Stable's American Pharoah, champion 2-year-old male of 2014, and Kaleem Shah's undefeated grade I winner Dortmund, most recently the victor in the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (gr. III) Feb. 7, closed at respective odds of 8-1 and 9-1.
 
Following Dortmund was Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (gr. I) winner Carpe Diem, at 10-1; Withers' Stakes (gr. III) winner Far From Over, and visually impressive Gulfstream Park allowance-optional claiming winner Khozan, both drawing support at 13-1 odds; Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner Texas Red, 14-1; and Lambholm South Holy Bull Stakes (gr. II) winner Upstart, 15-1. 
 
Risen Star (gr. II) and Lecomte Stakes (gr. III) winner International Star, who with 71 points leads the Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifying series of prep races, followed at 22-1. Next comes Sam F. Davis (gr. III) winner Ocean Knight at 23-1 and unbeaten Delta Downs Jackpot (gr. III) winner Ocho Ocho Ocho at 24-1.
 
A total of $422,331 was wagered during three days of KDFW pool 3 betting that opened Feb. 27 at noon. Win wagering totaled $300,403 and there was $121,927 in the exacta pool. 
 
Combined betting in the first three pools of the KDFW 2014 stands at $1,105,503. The year's fourth and final pool is set for March 27-29.
 
Churchill also offered the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, closing its pool 30 minutes after Derby pool 3 with the field favored at 7-2 odds. 
 
Rachel Alexandra Stakes (gr. III) winner I'm a Chatterbox was the top individual choice at 6-1, followed by 2014 champion 2-year-old filly Take Charge Brandi and 2014 Spinaway (gr. I) winner Condo Commando, both at 7-1. Puca, a 16-length winner to break her maiden last fall at Belmont Park drew solid support at 11-1, Forward Gal Stakes (gr. II) victress Birdatthewire was next at 12-1, followed by 2014 Chandelier Stakes (gr. I) winner Angela Renee at 22-1.
 
Total handle for the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager was $115,615, an increase from the last year's Kentucky Oaks Future Wager total of $81,234. The betting total for the three-day pool in 2013 was $126,039.
 
This year, there was $79,445 in win wagers for the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager and $36,169 in the exacta pool.
