The Equine Sales Company of Louisiana conducted its Open Yearling and Mixed Sale of Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses in Opelousas, La., on Nov. 21.

Topping the Thoroughbred portion of the sale was a yearling colt by Brody's Cause  purchased by Robbie Norman for $14,000 from the consignment of Muscadine Farm, agent for Louisiana breeder Morning Line Thoroughbreds. The colt was produced from the Lydgate mare Main Stage, a four-time winner who earned $63,344 and is a half sister to multiple stakes winner Watch My Smoke (Leestown) and stakes-placed Addy Annie (Posse).

From 64 Thoroughbreds offered, 49 were reported sold for gross receipts of $105,000, an average price of $2,143 and a $1,000 median. The RNA rate was 23.4%. Broodmares made up the greatest segment of Thoroughbreds offered, with 15 changing hands out of 25 offered. Eleven yearlings sold out of 14 offered averaged $3,700.

K. P. Sales was the leading consignor with nine sold out of 10 offered for a gross of $29,600. The consignor sold three of the top five highest-priced horses, led by a $9,500 Medaglia d'Oro  mare named Gingertini that K. P. Sales sold on behalf of Coteau Grove Farms. Gill Frederick bought Gingertini, who was in foal to Custom for Carlos .

At last year's sale held in October, 96 horses averaged $1,984 from an aggregate $190,500, with a $1,200 median and a 30.4% RNA rate.
