Simply Ravishing wins the Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland

Simply Ravishing has been simply straightforward in her preparations for the $200,000 Golden Rod Stakes (G2) Nov. 28 at Churchill Downs, according to trainer Kenny McPeek.

"She's done fine; she had a really good work the other day—it's not complicated," the Kentucky conditioner said of the grade 1-winning Laoban  filly, who leads a field of 10 in the 1 1/16-mile test.

Simply Ravishing exits a fourth in the Nov. 6 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Keeneland, where she checked in behind Vequist, Dayoutoftheoffice, and Girl Daddy.

"She stumbled leaving there, and I like the way that she fought on," McPeek said. "It actually was a pretty admirable finish considering she got off so bad. She'd never been behind horses, and she kept coming."

Looking to get back to the form that produced three consecutive wins for Harold Lerner, Magdalena Racing, and Nehoc Stables—topped by a 6 1/4-length romp in the Oct. 2 Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) at Keeneland—Simply Ravishing worked five furlongs in 1:01 Nov. 21 at Churchill. Robby Albarado has the call from post 8 aboard the New York-bred juvenile, a $50,000 Bluewater Sales graduate from the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale in 2019.

Trainer Brad Cox sends out a one-two punch in the undefeated Coach and Travel Column. The winner of the Oct. 25 Rags to Riches Overnight Stakes at Churchill for Kueber Racing, Coach is 3-for-3 and took the 1 1/16-mile Rags to Riches by 2 1/2 lengths over Lady Traveler, who will face the Commissioner filly again in the Golden Rod. Travel Column, by Frosted , dazzled on debut by 4 1/4 lengths in a Sept. 4 maiden special weight going six furlongs at Churchill and returned with a third behind Simply Ravishing in the Alcibiades.

Joe Talamo rides Coach from post 3, and Florent Geroux will be aboard Travel Column from post 5.

The field also includes three-time Ohio-bred stakes winner Alexandria, who races for WinStar Farm, Blazing Meadows Farm, and Michael Lewis and is trained by Tim Hamm. New York-bred stakes winner No Mo' Spending will start for Six Column Stables, Randy Bloch, Jim Gladden, Riverview Racing, and trainer Ian Wilkes.

Steve Asmussen will saddle Phoenix Thoroughbreds' allowance winner Lady Lilly, third in the Spinaway Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course two starts back, along with Stonestreet Stables' homebred maiden winner Clairiere.

G. Watts Humphrey Jr.'s homebred maiden winner Farsighted, second in the Nov. 6 Songbird Stakes for trainer Rusty Arnold, and John Dewberry's maiden winner Princess Theorem, trained by Brendan Walsh, complete the field.
