Lets Go Stable and WinStar Farm's Daredevil, whose 3-year-old debut in the Feb. 28 Fasig-Tipton Swale Stakes (gr. II) was postponed until March 7 due to heavy rains, returned to the work tab March 2, breezing an easy half-mile at Palm Beach Downs in :49.51.
The son of More Than Ready, who captured the grade I Champagne Stakes under wraps last fall, had trained brilliantly for the seven-furlong Swale, turning in three consecutive bullet works leading up to the race before it had to be rescheduled.
As for getting such a late start and having his first race back in a sprint, Lets Go Stable has maintained all along that this was the best schedule for the colt, tweeting back on Feb. 18: "Been asked a few times, 'What's the ideal recipe is for prepping your horse for a run at the Kentucky Derby?' It changes so much from year to year, the only thing that makes sense is to simply be the best horse on the first Saturday in May. One thing has changed for certain and that is having a fresh horse with less preps. Big Brown, Mine That Bird, Super Saver, Animal Kingdom, and I'll Have Another."
Trainer Todd Pletcher also had two other 3-year-olds out together for more serious works in Competitive Edge, winner of the Hopeful Stakes (gr. I), who went five-furlongs in a bullet :59.12, and allowance winner Madefromlucky, who was clocked in :59.14 for his five furlongs.
Also on the work tab for Pletcher was last year's Belmont Stakes (gr. I) runner-up, Commissioner, who drilled a sharp half in :47.96.
