Royal Prince breaks his maiden at Keeneland

Steve Landers Racing’s Royal Prince was named the 7-2 morning-line favorite for the $100,000 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes (G3T), a one-mile turf test for 2-year-olds Nov. 29 at Del Mar.

Royal Prince, trained by Brad Cox, comes off a 1 1/16-mile turf maiden win at Keeneland Oct. 2 in his second start. He was second in his debut racing a mile on the Ellis Park turf Aug. 8. He will break from post 10 in a field of 11 under jockey Joel Rosario.

The Cairo Prince  colt is a half brother to 2019 champion 2-year-old filly British Idiom, also trained by Cox. He was a $70,000 purchase by Steve Landers from Warrendale Sales, agent for breeders Sandra Sexton and Silver Fern Farm, at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Others likely to draw mutuel support include Altamira Racing Stable, CYBT, Marc Lantzman, and Michael Nentwig’s Ebeko, Legacy Ranch’s Big Fish, and Madaket Stables’ Wootton Asset.

Ebeko began his career in Ireland and has made three North American starts for trainer Peter Miller. The Awtaad colt rallied to be second in the Sept. 7 Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes behind Big Fish, won the Oct. 4 Zuma Beach Stakes at Santa Anita Park, and last out finished ninth in the Nov. 6 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Presented by Coolmore America (G1T) at Keeneland. Ricardo Gonzalez will ride from post 1.

Big Fish, who will break from post 7 under Umberto Rispoli, will be making his first start since a fifth in the Zuma Beach for trainer David Hofmans.

Wootton Asset has made two North American starts for trainer Graham Motion after beginning his career in France. The Wootton Bassett colt was second, beaten a nose, in the Oct. 3 Laurel Futurity at Pimlico Race Course and last out was fourth in the Oct. 31 Awad Stakes at Belmont Park. Both starts were on yielding turf. Wootton Asset will break from the outside with Manny Franco aboard.

Harlan Estate, Cotopaxi, Beer Can Man, Commander Khai, Party Game, Coastal Kid, and Caisson round out the field.
