Tapizar , a son of the great Tapit  and the sire of Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) and dual Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) heroine Monomoy Girl, will stand at Yushun Stallion Station in Japan for 2021.

The 12-year-old, a winner of the San Fernando Stakes (G2) and Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) in 2012, has been standing at Gainesway in Kentucky since his retirement in 2013 but will arrive in Japan in mid-January.

Tapizar's main claim to fame as a stallion comes through his hugely talented daughter in Monomoy Girl. The 5-year-old—who was sold at The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton's premier breeding stock sale, for an eye-watering $9.5 million to Spendthrift—will stay in training next year.

Trained by Brad Cox, she has won 13 of her 15 starts to date including the Kentucky Oaks and Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) in 2018, plus the 2018 and 2020 editions of the Breeders' Cup Distaff and the La Troienne Stakes Presented by Oak Grove Racing and Gaming (G1) at Churchill Downs in September.

Tapizar, who stood the 2020 season for a fee of $10,000, is also responsible for Bessarabian Stakes (G2) victress Amalfi Coast and Delaware Oaks (G3) scorer Project Whiskey.

Bred by Winchell Thoroughbreds, Tapizar is out of the Deputy Minister mare Winning Call and is the fifth of her nine foals to hit the track.
