True Timber wins the Cigar Mile at Aqueduct Racetrack

Calumet Farm's True Timber, perched just off two dueling leaders, pounced on the turn and drew off in the stretch for an emphatic victory in the $250,000 Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) Dec. 5 at Aqueduct Racetrack.

The Jack Sisterson trainee raced a mile on a sloppy track in 1:36.49 under Kendrick Carmouche. The 6-year-old son of Mineshaft  bred in Kentucky by Mr. and Mrs. Marc Ferrell paid $16.60 for a $2 win wager.

Snapper Sinclair rallied from midpack to finish second, just ahead of third-place Performer, the favorite, who broke a step slow and trailed in the early going. Three-year-old King Guillermo, who contested the early pace with Mr. Buff, was fourth.

Mind Control, a 20-1 outsider on the morning line, and Firenze Fire, the 5-2 second choice on the line, were scratched from the race in the slop.
