Kamsin joins Annshoon Stud for 2021

Kamsin, a champion in his native Germany and a grade 1 winner-producing sire, is to stand at Michael Shefflin's Annshoon Stud in County Kilkenny, Ireland, for the 2021 breeding season.

The son of Samum who was bred by Gestut Karlshof was crowned champion 3-year-old in Germany after landing a hat trick of group 1s during his classic season, namely the Deutsches Derby (G1), Rheinland-Pokal der Sparkasse KolnBonn (G1), and Mercedes-Benz Grosser Preis von Baden (G1).

He spent the first of six seasons at stud in Germany at Gestut Karlshof and overcame some small initial crops to produce the likes of On The Go, the winner of the prestigious Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris (G1) for Guillaume Macaire, and the group 3-winning flat performer Ladykiller, who is now in training with David Pipe.

In 2017, Kamsin switched to Haras d'Etreham in France, where he spent two seasons, before he transferred to Haras de la Tuilerie, where he covered two sizable books at a fee of €6,000.

"I'm delighted to have him stand here," said Shefflin. "He's a great walker with a lovely temperament, was a champion on the track, and is a proven stallion from the Monsun sire line. He's had to do it the hard way, producing a top-class chaser and juvenile hurdler from only small crops.

"He undoubtedly has his best chance now with the larger crops to run for him over the next few years."

By Samum, Kamsin hails from a strong German family as he is out of Kapitol, the winner of the Preis des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (G3).

The daughter of Winged Love has produced eight other winners, including Preis von Europa (G1) hero Khan, group 3-winning and group 1-placed Kapitale, and listed scorer Kashmar.

Kamsin, whose progeny have sold for up to €190,000, will stand his debut season in Ireland at a fee of €3,500 with concessions for fillies.
