Three-time group 1 winner Victoire Pisa and grade 1-placed, grade 2 winner Kluger have been purchased by the Jockey Club of Turkey for the 2021 breeding season, the organization announced recently.
Purchased from the Breeders Stallion Station, Victoire Pisa made international headlines in 2011 by becoming the first Japanese-bred horse to win the Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (G1). The victory gave a huge morale boost to Japan, which suffered widespread devastation from an earthquake and subsequent tsunami about two weeks before the Dubai World Cup. The 13-year-old son of Neo Universe also won the Arima Kinen (Grand Prix, G1) and Satsuki Sho (Japanese Two Thousand Guineas, G1) on his way to compiling an 8-1-2 record out of 15 starts and earnings of US$12,891,734. Victoire Pisa was named Japan's champion 3-year-old colt for 2010 and champion older horse for 2011.
Shadai Farm bred Victoire Pisa out of the group 1-placed, group 2 winner Whitewater Affair, who is also the dam of grade 2 winner Asakusa Den'en and grade 2-placed, stakes winner Swift Current.
Victoire Pisa started his stud career at Shadai Stallion Station. He has sired seven graded winners so far led by grade 1 winner Jeweler, who won the 2016 Oka Sho (Japanese One Thousand Guineas, G1) and helped Victoire Pisa become Japan's leading second-crop sire that year. The sire's other top performers include grade 2 winners Victoria and Scarlet Color, and grade 3 winners Kosoku Straight, Warring States, Breaking Dawn, and Red Anemos, and grade 1-placed winner Pearl Code.
Victoire Pisa has sired 298 winners from 524 runners, who have banked more than US$47.7 million in purses.
Kluger, bred by Northern Farm and raced by U Carrot Farm, will be entering stud in 2021. The 8-year-old son of King Kamehameha won or placed in six graded stakes, getting victories in the 2016 Yomiuri Milers Cup (G2) at Kyoto and Lord Derby Challenge Trophy (G3) at Nakayama this year. Kluger also was runner-up to four-time Australian Horse of the Year Winx in her final start in the 2019 Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1) at Randwick.
For his career, Kluger had a 6-4-3 record out of 27 starts and earned US$2,426,584.
Kluger is out of the German-bred Diktat group 3 winner Addicted. The mare also is the dam of group-placed, black-type winner Succession, who is a full brother to Kluger.
Both stallions were purchased with the assistance of Satomi Oka Bloodstock and Forde Bloodstock.
