Miss Tapirado—who topped the 2019 Keeneland April Sale when purchased for $1.3 million—broke her maiden on the final day of her 3-year-old season Dec. 31 at Gulfstream Park, graduating in her second start.
The Bill Mott trained Tapit filly, who turns 4 Jan. 1, is a full sister to Bourbon War, a twice stakes-placed colt with earnings of $234,100. In March of 2019, shortly before Miss Tapirado was bought, he finished second to Code of Honor in the Xpressbet Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream.
While her brother's two wins have come on dirt, although none since early 2019, Miss Tapirado showed an affinity for grass by prevailing in a mile maiden race by a neck under Junior Alvarado over pacesetter Katama Moonlight. She was timed covering the distance on firm Gulfstream turf in 1:34.50, paying $12.40.
She now has earnings of $25,088 from two starts for owner Prince Sultan Bin Mishal Al Saud, for whom agent Chad Schumer purchased her in 2019. Thursday's race followed a debut seventh in the slop at Churchill Downs Nov. 22.
Bred by SF Bloodstock, Miss Tapirado is the second foal to race out of the Artie Schiller mare My Conquestadory, winner of the Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) on Polytrack and the TVG Summer Stakes (G2T) on grass, both in 2013. The dam was sent to Australia in 2017.
