Scars Are Cool, a graduate of Fasig-Tipton's 2020 July Horses of Racing Age Sale, captured the $100,000 Open Imported Horse Stakes Jan. 15 and is now being pointed toward the $20 million Saudi Cup run Feb. 20 at King Abdulaziz Racetrack, according to Fasig-Tipton.
The 5-year-old son of Malibu Moon sold for $175,000 at the July sale to Ahmad Alabdullatif, a breeder based in Riyadh. An adviser to several Saudi Arabian racing operations, Alabdullatif identified several candidates at the sale for consideration and Scars Are Cool emerged as the top choice of his eventual buyer, Mohammed Omar I. Alsakan.
Lexington-based bloodstock agent Thomas Clark signed the ticket on behalf of Alabdullatif and the buyer.
Scars Are Cool was consigned to the sale by Claiborne Farm, agent for Sagamore Farm. He was bred in Florida by Hardacre Farm out of the More Than Ready mare Ready Signal, and was a $170,000 purchase by Sagamore from Summerfield Farm's consignment to the Ocala Breeders' Sales October Yearling Sale in 2017. When he went through the ring at Fasig-Tipton, he had a 3-1-3 record from 13 starts, with earnings of $154,957.
