Description:

Toast of New York, who finished a nose second to Bayern in the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) Nov. 1, will miss the $10 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) later this month at Meydan because of a soft tissue injury, Racing Post reports.

Al Shaqab Racing's Kentucky-bred son of Thewayyouare, based in England with trainer Jamie Osborne, was an early favorite for the world's richest race March 28.

A recent purchase by Sheikh Joaan's Al Shaqab Racing from previous owner Michael Buckley, Toast of New York scored an easy win in the United Arab Emirates Derby (UAE-II) last March. After three months off, he returned to be runner-up in the Pacific Classic (gr. I), 2 3/4 lengths behind champion Shared Belief in August at Del Mar, and then chased front-running Bayern to the finish line in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park, holding off third-place finisher California Chrome by a neck.

Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner California Chrome is training forwardly toward a trip to Dubai for the World Cup. The Lucky Pulpit   colt drilled a handy six furlongs in a bullet 1:11 March 6 at his Los Alamitos Race Course base.

The 2014 Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male was second in his 2015 debut, 1 1/2 lengths behind Shared Belief, in the Feb. 7 San Antonio Invitational Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita.
