Gulfstream Park announced Jan. 29 that Fasig-Tipton will remain the title sponsor of the $350,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2).
The Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth, to be contested at 1 1/16 miles Feb. 27, will highlight a program that includes nine stakes, eight of which are graded. The Palm Beach Stakes was downgraded from a grade 3 to Listed for 2021.
"Fasig-Tipton is delighted to partner with 1/ST Racing once again this year to sponsor the Fountain of Youth Stakes," Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning said. "We are proud to sponsor such a prestigious race ahead of our marquee 2-year-olds-in-training sale at Gulfstream Park on March 31."
"The Fountain of Youth has long been a significant race on the 3-year-old calendar," said Mike Lakow, Gulfstream's vice president of racing. "We are pleased Fasig-Tipton has partnered with us once again to sponsor the Fountain of Youth."
The Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth has been a key prep for the Florida Derby (G1) and Triple Crown races, and its winners have gone on to compete in major races around the world. Recent Fountain of Youth winners have included 2013 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Florida Derby (G1) winner Orb , 2012 Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Union Rags , 2019 Travers (G1) winner Code of Honor, 2018 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) runner-up Gunnevera , and 2009 Florida Derby and Donn Handicap (G1) winner Quality Road .
The Fountain of Youth was first contested in 1945. Previous winners have also included Kentucky Derby winners Thunder Gulch (1995), Proud Truth (1985), Spectacular Bid (1976), Kauai King (1968), and Tim Tam (1958).
