Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Shedaresthedevil breezed three furlongs in :36 3/5 Feb. 1 at Oaklawn Park as she readies for a return at age 4, potentially in the Azeri Stakes (G2) March 13, according to track publicity.
"We're not going to get in a big hurry with her; just kind of pick it up a little bit each week," trainer Brad Cox said after watching the breeze, which was not initially posted on Equibase.com.
Last year at 3, Shedaresthedevil captured four races, including Oaklawn's Honeybee Stakes (G3). She hasn't started since a post-Oaks third in the Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (G1) Oct. 4 at Keeneland for owners Flurry Racing Stables, Qatar Racing, and Big Aut Farms.
Following the Spinster, the daughter of Daredevil received a 60-day break, before resuming light training in mid-December in Kentucky. She arrived at Oaklawn Jan. 9, leaving her just around two months to prepare locally for the Azeri, a race that could also attract stablemate Getridofwhatailesu.
"It's going to get close there," Cox said of Shedaresthedevil's preparation. "We're just going to have to kind of really watch her and let her tell us if she's ready for that, but that would be the first logical target."
Monomoy Girl, the Cox-trained dual Eclipse Award winner, is scheduled to make her 2021 debut in the Bayakoa Stakes (G3) Feb. 15 at Oaklawn.
