Racing at Laurel Park

Due to a winter storm affecting the Mid-Atlantic region, the scheduled Feb. 13 racing program at Laurel Park featuring the $250,000 Runhappy Barbara Fritchie Stakes (G3) and the $250,000 General George Stakes (G3) has been postponed to Feb. 20.

With a winter storm advisory issued through 7 a.m. Feb. 14 and the area receiving a mix of freezing rain, ice, and snow, track officials chose to transfer the entire nine-race program, citing safety for the horses and horsemen. The Maryland Jockey Club's off-track betting sites will remain open for simulcasting.

In addition to the Barbara Fritchie and General George for older sprinters, Saturday's "Winter Sprintfest" had been set to showcase the $100,000 Miracle Wood Stakes for 3-year-olds, the $100,000 Wide Country Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, the $100,000 John B. Campbell Stakes for 4-year-olds and up, and $100,000 Nellie Morse for older females at about 1 1/16 miles.

There is a nine-race card scheduled Sunday at Laurel Park and a nine-race Presidents Day holiday program Feb. 15.

Laurel Park is one of several Thoroughbred tracks impacted by severe weather this weekend or forecast for early next week. Oaklawn Park canceled racing through Monday. Delta Downs canceled racing Monday and Feb. 16.

Turfway Park also canceled Saturday night after also scrapping its Feb. 11-12 programs.
