Life Is Good and Freedom Fighter, two of trainer Bob Baffert's Triple Crown contenders, worked at Santa Anita Park Feb. 15 toward their next expected starts on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
WinStar Farm and China Horse Club's Jan. 2 Sham Stakes (G3) winner Life Is Good was timed five furlongs in 1:00 4/5. The Into Mischief colt is slated for the March 6 San Felipe Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita.
"He went extremely well," Baffert said.
Freedom Fighter, runner-up to stablemate Concert Tour in the Feb. 6 San Vicente Stakes (G2), was clocked a half-mile in :48 3/5. The Violence colt owned by SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Golconda Stables, Siena Farm, and Robert Masterson is being pointed to the March 6 Gotham Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack. Manny Franco is scheduled to ride.
Both the San Felipe and the Gotham offer qualifying points toward a spot in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) starting gate on a 50-20-10-5 scale to the top four finishers.
Baffert also worked Michael Lund Petersen's 2020 champion female sprinter Gamine "an easy half" Monday in :50 1/5. It was the second work back for the 4-year-old Into Mischief daughter since winning the Nov. 7 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) at Keeneland. She covered three furlongs in :37 2/5 Feb. 8.
