Description:

Texas Red, winner of the 2014 Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I), is back at Santa Anita Park with trainer Keith Desormeaux, arriving March 9.

The colt underwent several weeks of swimming therapy at Premier Equine Center in Oakdale, Calif. after suffering a foot abscess prior to the Feb. 21 Risen Stakes (gr. II).

"He'll work next Saturday and then the following two Saturdays, and hopefully that will be enough to justify running in the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I)," Desormeaux said. "If not, we'll wait one more week and go in the Arkansas Derby (gr. I, April 11 at Oaklawn Park)."

Co-owner Erich Brehm added, "He's had three types of aerobic works per day, aqua-tread, swimming, etc. Keith believes that if we pull this off, he will be very fresh for the Triple Crown run."

Texas Red, a son of Afleet Alex bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, started the year with an excellent second-place finish in the seven-furlong San Vicente Stakes (gr. II), beaten a neck. The race was supposed to set him up for the Risen Star at Fair Grounds.
