Michael Dubb and Bethlehem Stables Maythehorsebwithu led every step of the way Feb. 20 to win the $99,000 Miracle Wood Stakes at Laurel Park by four lengths. The Bullsbay  gelding bested four other 3-year-olds as he covered a mile in 1:37.02 on a fast track.

Second last out in the Jan. 16 Spectacular Bid Stakes at seven furlongs after rating off the winner Kenny Had a Notion, Maythehorsebwithu broke quickly Saturday under Sheldon Russell and went an opening quarter in :24.02 and a half in :47.51. The Brittany Russell trainee was pressed by Subsidize while Kenny Had a Notion raced third. Around the turn, Kenny Had a Notion moved inside Subsidize into second and took aim on the leader, who ran three-quarters in 1:12.19. But Maythehorsebwithu had plenty left and comfortably recorded his first stakes victory.

"My horse broke very sharp today and he's a forward kind of horse," Sheldon Russell said. "Last time I sort of broke on 'Kenny's' hip. But the way my guy broke today I had no choice. I was inside 'Kenny.' We didn't have any problems with this horse getting the distance. He trains in the morning like he'll run all day. I'm just glad we got the job done."

Tiz Mandate, who broke last, closed to finish second a half-length in front of Kenny Had a Notion. Subsidize and Newyearsblockparty completed the order of finish.

Maythehorsebwithu has won three of seven starts along with three seconds. He has earned $156,215.

"He's the kind of horse in the morning that always trains very forwardly," Brittany Russell said. "You can't get this horse tired, and he always has big, huge gallop-outs after his breezes, so we were pretty confident that he would appreciate added distance.

"Seeing what happened in the Spectacular Bid in the stretch run, I was confident that if he got the right trip he could definitely get the mile."

Maythehorsebwithu was bred in Pennsylvania by Beatrice Patterson and Vicky Schowe. He is the third black-type winner produced from the Forestry mare Avani Force, following multiple graded stakes winner Call Paul (Friesan Fire ) and stakes winner Pink Caddy (El Padrino). Avani Force's latest foal is her 2-year-old Uncle Lino  colt, Mr Sandman.

Consigned to the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Yearling Sale by Marshall W. Silverman, Maythehorsebwithu was purchased for $55,000 by Dubb, with Liz Crow acting as agent.

Street Lute Wins Fifth Straight Stakes in Wide Country

The wins just keep piling up for Lucky 7 Stables' Street Lute.

The John-Robb trained Street Magician  filly won her fifth consecutive stakes races and seventh race in eight starts when she moved three-wide at the top of the stretch to win the $100,000 Wide Country Stakes by a length over eight other 3-year-old fillies. Ridden by Xavier Perez, she completed the seven furlongs in 1:23.59 on a fast track.

"Now with so many stakes under her belt and her performance today, I think she's finally stamped it. Today was definitely a big day and I think it was her toughest company today," said Gina Robb, assistant and wife of John Robb.

Street Lute broke alertly and Perez settled her in third while Little Huntress was pressed by Whiskey and Rye through brisk fractions of :22:62 and :44.91. Around the turn, Street Lute carried Perez effortlessly to the front and drove away from the competition as Fraudulent Charge closed for the place. Salt Plage checked in third, followed by Buckey's Charm, Lady Clau, Miss Leslie, Whiskey and Rye, Little Huntress, and My My Girl.

"My concern when I was watching the race was, I said, 'Wow, I don't feel like he's asking her but she's not going anywhere. They must be flying.' So, when I saw the :44 (half-mile) I said, 'Oh, thank goodness.' Then once he asked her, it was all over," Gina Robb said. "Able to chase that pace and finish the way she did? That was pretty spectacular.

"Seven-eighths today, in great fashion. I think it was even better than the day she won the Maryland Juvenile (Filly Championship going) seven-eighths. I think she kind of proved a point today."

"She likes running after horses up front," Perez said of Street Lute. "I saw Brittany (Russell)'s horse (Little Huntress) go and we settled in nice. This race set up perfect for us … I was so confident off the turn we were cruising to the wire."

Bred in Maryland by Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Bowman and Dr. Brooke Bowman, Street Lute is the first starter out of the Midnight Lute  mare Alottalute. The mare has since produced Alottahope, a 2-year-old Editorial colt, and a yearling full sister to Street Lute.

John Robb purchased Street Lute for $10,500 from consignor Becky Davis at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Yearling Sale. The filly has earned $410,220, with her lone loss being a second-place finish.
