United Nations Purse Increase Keys Monmouth Schedule

The $1 million Haskell Stakes, won in 2020 by eventual Horse of the Year Authentic, again is the richest race of the season at Monmouth Park
Led by the $1 million TVG.com Haskell Stakes (G1) and a purse increase to the $500,000 United Nations Stakes (G1T), Monmouth Park is set to offer $6.15 million in stakes races when the track kicks off its 76th season May 28.
This year's meet, which runs through Sept. 26, will feature 46 total stakes, 10 graded events, and 10 stakes restricted to New Jersey-bred horses. The schedule exceeds the 35 stakes and $5.2 million awarded in 2020 during a COVID-19-altered meet but is short of the 64 stakes and $7.2 million in stakes purses from 2019.
Last year's Haskell saw Horse of the Year Authentic capture New Jersey's most prestigious race en route to victories in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) and Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), earning the $1 million BetMakers Bonanza by capturing all three races.
This year's Haskell Day will once again feature six stakes races, including Monmouth Park's other grade 1, the United Nations, which receives a purse boost from $315,000. It was won last year by former claimer Aquaphobia.
The 19th annual New Jersey Thoroughbred Festival, with three stakes events, will be renewed on Aug. 29, with the $125,000 Charles Hesse III Handicap headlining that card.
Stall applications, which are due by March 31, are now available online at www.monmouthpark.com or in hard copy format in the Monmouth Park racing office.
