Description:

The Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association has named its champions and leaders for 2014.

Pennsylvania-breds had a record-breaking year in 2014 as a total of 54 were stakes winners, a new single-season total. Nine were graded or group winners, led by Ken and Sarah Ramsey's homebred turf star Real Solution   and William L. Pape and Jonathan Sheppard's homebred steephchaser Divine Fortune.

Named Pennsylvania-bred older male and turf horse, Real Solution won the Knob Creek Manhattan (gr. IT) and Man o' War (gr. IT), both at Belmont Park, and earned $643,000 during the year.

Divine Fortune landed the Colonial Cup and Calvin Hougland Iroquois, (both NSA-I), and bankrolled $195,000.

Although there were fewer Pennsylvania-bred starters in 2014 compared with 2013, they recorded more wins and earned in excess of $63 million worldwide.

The divisional winners were based upon the recommendation of the organization's awards committee of Jane White (chair), Elizabeth Barr, John Benson, and Susan Meckling.
