Trainer Brendan Walsh, who won the $2.5 million UAE Derby Sponsored By Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group (G2) in 2019 with Plus Que Parfait, is sending another U.S. horse to Meydan in Dubai—this time DARRS' Extravagant Kid for the $1 million Al Quoz Sprint Presented by Azizi Developments (G1) March 27. The race is a straightaway at 1,200 meters (about six furlongs) on turf.
The 8-year-old gelded son of Kiss the Kid has been first or second in 30 of 49 career starts, making more than $1 million. A 14-time winner and multiple stakes winner, he was fourth when he last raced in top-tier company in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) Nov. 7 at Keeneland.
"In the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, he was only beaten a length or so after a horrendous draw—14 out of 14—and going wide the whole way and lost a ton of ground," Walsh said. "He's one of those horses who no matter the company he's in, he holds his own. He's done it on turf and dirt and it's always been in the back of my mind that he'd be a good horse to bring to Dubai. He's getting on in age, and I think this is a good time to go."
Extravagant Kid most recently placed second in the Feb. 13 Colonel Power Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
