Veteran jockey Glenn Corbett, who competes in the Southwest and Midwest, earned the 4,000th Thoroughbred victory of his career March 8 when he and Arabian Story rallied from sixth to win the fourth race at Turf Paradise.
Corbett also has six victories in either Quarter Horse or mixed-breed races, according to Equibase statistics.
Since 2000, Corbett, 55, has ranked in the top 100 by wins a dozen times and the top 100 by earnings four times. A native of Washington, Ga., Corbett competed in rodeo while still in high school before turning his focus to horse racing. He would secure the first win of his career in 1985 at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.
Corbett is the 78th North American-based rider to secure 4,000 wins. Through March 8 he had compiled a 4,000-3,649-3,249 record from 25,497 career starts. His mounts have earned $55,286,574 in purses.
In 2020-21 Corbett has competed at Turf Paradise, Prairie Meadows, Sunland Park, and Will Rogers Downs. He has 10 wins at the current Turf Paradise meet, where he earned the riding title in 2007. Corbett also secured the 3,000th win of his career at Turf Paradise, when he guided Souvenir Winner to victory Dec. 22, 2009.
In 2002 Corbett competed in the Kentucky Derby (G1), guiding Lusty Latin to a 15th-place finish. Some of his top horses have included multiple stakes winners Mywomanfromtokyo and Cainam. Corbett guided Iowa-bred Mywomanfromtokyo to four stakes wins at Prairie Meadows, including three editions of the Donna Reed Stakes (2017-18, and 2020).
As for Monday's milestone win, Arabian Story completed the six-furlong allowance level race in 1:10.06. The 5-year-old Fed Biz gelding is campaigned by owner Terri Ferguson and trainer Chad Ferguson.
