Prime Attraction wins the 2017 Native Diver Stakes at Del Mar

Grade 1-placed, graded stakes winner Prime Attraction  has been retired to stud and will stand at Horsepower Racing Stable near Shelburne, Ontario, for an introductory fee of CA$2,500.

The son of Unbridled's Song was highly regarded as a yearling when DP Racing bought him for $335,000 out of Stone Farm's consignment at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. With trainer Jim Cassidy, he raced from 3 to 6 and compiled a 4-4-2 record from 23 starts that generated $557,795 in earnings.

Prime Attraction won his second lifetime start and at 4 earned graded stakes credentials by winning the Native Diver Stakes (G3) at Del Mar and finishing second in the John Henry Turf Championship (G2T) at Santa Anita Park. At 5, he placed in four more graded stakes, including a third in the $1 Million TVG Pacific Classic (G1) behind future champion older dirt male Accelerate  and Pavel  but also defeated The Lieutenant, a half brother to Triple Crown winner Justify .

"He competed in 17 consecutive stakes races, of which 16 were graded status. He is a modern-day war horse when compared to many present-day stallions," said Tim Orlando with Horsepower Racing Stable. "Prime Attraction is big, attractive, and well-bred. He has no inbreeding in his first five generations and is free of Northern Dancer. He is an excellent option for Ontario breeders and represents outstanding value."

Now 8, Prime Attraction becomes the only graded stakes-winning son of 2017 leading North American sire Unbridled's Song standing in Canada. Unbridled's Song, a multiple grade 1 winner who died in 2013, sired 117 (7%) black-type winners worldwide from 17 crops of racing age. His stakes winners include 58 graded stakes winners and five champions. Other successful sire sons by Unbridled's Song include Cross Traffic , Half Ours , Liam's Map , Midshipman , Mission Impazible , My Golden Song , and Will Take Charge .

Bred by Payson Stud, Prime Attraction is out of the A.P. Indy daughter and multiple stakes producer Strawberry Sense, who is a half sister to champion 2-year-old male and sire Vindication (Seattle Slew) and to stakes winner and stakes producer In Step (Unbridled's Song), and a full sister to grade 3 winner and sire Scipion. As a broodmare, Strawberry Sense has produced grade 1-placed stakes winner Kathy's Song (Candy Ride ) and multiple stakes-placed Distillery (Dixie Union).
