Multiple grade 3 stakes-placed winner Revved Up, an 8-year-old son of Candy Ride (ARG) and out of one of the strongest families in the American Stud Book, has been retired to stud at River Oaks Farm near Sulphur, Okla.
Bred by Phipps Stable, Revved Up is the fifth foal and most successful runner out of four-time grade 1 winner Storm Flag Flying, who won the Long John Silver's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) on her way to earning honors as champion 2-year-old filly in 2002. Storm Flag Flying is a third-generation Breeders' Cup World Championships winner being out of 1995 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner My Flag, who is a daughter of undefeated Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) winner and 1996 Broodmare of the Year Personal Ensign.
"My attraction to this horse was his female family," said Rusty Roberts, who put together the syndication for Revved Up. "There are also very few sons of Candy Ride standing in the Midwest, and he is coming on as a sire of sires."
The family also has produced a number of successful sires, including Parading, Our Emblem, and Mr. Speaker.
Roberts described Revved up as a medium-sized, very attractive, and well-balanced horse with a deep heart girth and excellent disposition.
"This horse did his best running on turf, but this family is certainly not limited to turf or dirt. He is much more than a one-dimensional horse and is going to open up a lot of opportunities."
Revved Up was initially raced by Phipps Stable with trainer Shug McGaughey. He won four times for the owner/breeder and was third in the River City Handicap (G3T) at Churchill Downs and second in the Arlington Handicap (G3T) at Arlington International Racecourse before being cataloged to the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Horses of Racing Age sale. Kingsport Farm bought Revved Up for $350,000 out of Claiborne Farm's consignment and eventually sent him to trainer Mark Casse, who won an allowance optional claiming race with him at Woodbine. The horse retired in 2020 with a 5-4-3 record from 31 starts and $372,524 in earnings.
The stallion arrived at River Oaks March 10 and is already attracting attention from local breeders, according to Roberts, who said, despite the late start for this year's breeding season. Revved Up already has been booked to 10 mares.
Revved Up is standing for $2,000, with a live foal stands and nurses guarantee.
