American invader Mystic Guide, a Godolphin homebred by Ghostzapper , scored an emphatic victory in the $12 million Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (G1) March 27 at Meydan.
Always well placed under Luis Saez, Kentucky-bred Mystic Guide stalked the pace in third before taking command entering the stretch. He then powered away for a 3 3/4-length victory.
Japan's Chuwa Wizard was second followed by a rallying Magny Cours, also a Kentucky-bred Godolphin homebred, in third. Early leader Hypothetical was fourth.
The winning Mike Stidham trainee raced 2,000 meters (about 1 1/4 miles) in 2:01.61. He paid $5.50 as the favorite in pari-mutuel wagering offered in the United States.
Godolphin is headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, creator of the Dubai World Cup and the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
This year's Dubai World Cup was run without fans as a COVID-19 health measure. The race was canceled last year with the onset of the pandemic.
Late scratches before Saturday's race were Great Scot and Military Law. The former misbehaved in the preliminaries and the latter got loose shortly before the start, running riderless for several minutes until apprehended.
