Multiple graded stakes winner Maraud has been retired and will stand at Eduardo Maldonado's Potrero Los Llanos in Coamo, Puerto Rico.
By Blame and out of the Empire Maker mare Unbridled Empire, Maraud captured the American Turf Stakes Presented by Ram Trucks (G2T) and the Palm Beach Stakes (G3T) at 3 and placed in four other graded stakes throughout his career. He raced from ages 2-6 and compiled a 4-1-7 record from 21 starts while earnings $506,510.
Maraud is a half brother to multi-millionaire Arklow , winner of the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1T) and also the American Turf. His dam is a half sister to grade 1 winners Fourty Niners Son and Cindy's Hero and he descends from the female family of dual champion filly and Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Silverbulletday .
Bloodstock agent Ed Price brokered the deal.
Thoroughbred Daily News first reported Maraud would stand in Puerto Rico.
Maldonado told BloodHorse that Maraud offers an outcross from the A.P. Indy lines he has at the farm, which also stands Console , Believe in Royalty , and Tiz Shea D .
"We think he's going to be a really good match for our mares for the next couple of years," Maldonado said. "I think he's going to go well with a lot of mares here in Puerto Rico.
"He's a son of Blame," Maldonado added. "Blame just recently had Nadal who was running on the dirt. His dam side is beautiful. He's a half brother to Arklow. He won $500,000, had a couple of graded stakes wins in there, and he's a beautiful horse. This is probably one of my most beautiful stallions right now."
Maraud last raced March 11 at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots for Collinsworth Thoroughbred Racing and trainer Bret Calhoun. He arrived in Puerto Rico March 27.
"He got here on Saturday and he looks like he was at a farm for a long time," Maldonado said. "He looks spectacular. I told Ed to congratulate the trainer because this horse got here in beautiful shape."
A stud fee for the 2021 season has not yet been announced.
"When a horse like this comes up you need to jump on the opportunity," Maldonado said. "For us, for our market, it's a perfect horse."
