British Jockey Weston in Stable Condition

Description:

Amateur jockey Tom Weston, injured when his horse fell at Cheltenham Racecourse during a steeplechase March 12, was reported in stable condition in intensive care at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, England.

Weston's wife reported the rider's condition March 13 through the British Injured Jockeys Fund.

According to Racing Post, Weston punctured both lungs but had no serious head injuries as a result of the incident which occurred when he fell from his mount Benbane Head during the Kim Muir Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Martin Keighley, Benbane Head's trainer, reported the 11-year-old horse was "battered and bruised" but otherwise OK as a result of the fall.

Meanwhile, the Post reported its photographer, Patrick McCann, was recovering from injuries he sustained during a freak accident March 11 at Cheltenham. The Post said McCann underwent surgery on two broken bones he sustained when the French horse Toutancarmont jumped to the left at the next-to-last obstacle in the chase and through the rail into the path of the photographer.

The Post said McCann took evasive action but was brushed by the horse, causing the injuries. The newspaper reported its photographer will need 10 to 12 weeks to recover from the surgery.
