Horsewoman Dona Albright, a longtime member of the racing community at Hollywood Casino at
Penn National Race Course, died March 11 at the age of 74.
An owner, breeder, and trainer, Albright and her late husband, George, were fixtures on the Penn National backstretch for nearly four decades. They were supporters of the Pennsylvania horse breeding program and many of their horses were bred in the Keystone State.
The Albrights also passed on their extensive knowledge and passion for racing to their children, many of whom are still active on local racing circuits. Amy, George "Rusty" Albright Jr., Alice, and Alfie have all been involved in racing throughout their lives as trainers and jockeys. Albright's granddaughter Kaylia is currently a regular member of the Penn National riding colony.
Albright was active as a trainer right up to her death and sent out two winners from nine starters in 2015. She is credited with a career record of 370 winners from 3,618 starters and purses earnings of $2,321,255 since saddling her first runner in 1982.
