Sky Judge becomes the first winner April 14 for Indiana stallion Sahara Sky at Indiana Grand

Grade 1 winner and Indiana stallion Sahara Sky sired his first winner April 14 when his gelded son Sky Judge won a five-furlong maiden special weight at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino.

Bred in Indiana by the Samuel and William Martin Trust, 3-year-old Sky Judge is raced by owner/trainer Merrill C. Roberts. The gelding won in near gate-to-wire fashion by 1 1/4 lengths in his sixth career start.

Sky Judge is out of the multiple stakes winner Wrenice, a daughter of Uncle Abbie and the dam of stakes-placed winner Right Lane Lukasz. The mare has produced four foals that have all raced and are now all winners. E.W. Martin, Trustee, bought Wrenice for $15,000 at the 2017 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale. Martin bred Sahara Sky and retired him to stud in Indiana.

Sahara Sky now stands for $1,500 at M.C. Roberts Racing Stable near Mooresville, Ind., which races under the name Indy Dancers Training Center.

Sahara Sky, a 13-year-old son of Pleasant Tap, won eight of 27 starts and earned $1,181,583. His best performance was his victory in the 2013 Metropolitan Handicap (G1). He also won consecutive editions of the San Carlos Stakes (G2) in 2013-14 and won the Palos Verdes Stakes (G2) in 2013. Sahara Sky was campaigned by trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who co-owned the horse with Sweetwater Stable.
