Essential Quality at Churchill Downs
Undefeated Essential Quality , the likely favorite for the May 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1), remains at the top of this week's National Thoroughbred Racing Association Top 3-Year-Old Thoroughbred Poll. The Eclipse Award-winning 2-year-old male of 2020 received 34 first-place votes and 373 points in this week's poll.
The racing world is still buzzing following the rousing finish in the April 17 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) at Oaklawn Park, where St. George Stable's 5-year-old mare Letruska defeated two-time Eclipse Award-winner Monomoy Girl by a nose. She zoomed to sixth place in this week's NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll with 183 points.
Godolphin's 4-year-old Mystic Guide , winner of the March 27 Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (G1), maintains the No. 1 ranking with 29 first-place votes and 358 points.
