Snow Lantern breaks her maiden at Newbury Racecourse
Richard Hannon has confirmed impressive Newbury winner Snow Lantern will not run in the May 2 QIPCO One Thousand Guineas (G1).
The 3-year-old filly shed her maiden tag in style at Newbury April 18 and was promptly cut by bookmakers into as short as 7-1 for the fillies' classic at Newmarket.
However, Hannon released a statement that the daughter of Frankel would not try to emulate her dam Sky Lantern , winner of the 2013 One Thousand Guineas, and would instead be aimed at one of two targets at York next month.
Hannon said: "Following discussions with connections, Snow Lantern will not be taking up her engagement in the One Thousand Guineas at Newmarket and will instead be aimed for either the group 3 Musidora Stakes or the listed Michael Seely Stakes at York's May meeting.
"Both of these races give us options and an extra couple of weeks, with the Michael Seeley being run over a mile and the Musidora over a mile and a quarter.
"Either of these races will give us a good guide on where we stand for the rest of the season with her. She also holds entries in the Cazoo Oaks (G1) and Prix de Diane (French Oaks, G1) and these engagements will be dependent on her York performance.
"There are plenty of options coming up for her. She is a special filly, with a beautiful pedigree, and has already proved an exciting prospect for her owner-breeders Rockcliffe Stud."
